Making Good Life Choices

Here I will be reflecting on how my vehicle project went.

When we first started our project, we were tasked with creating a problem definition statement so we knew what we needed to create. I think that our problem statement was quite good, as throughout our project we never had to question what we were doing or some of the parameters that were at hand. Here is our problem statement for reference:

Our team must design an efficient transportation method on a foreign celestial body, both without wasting excess energy and without wasting time,  capable of a 5-kilometre-long round trip on Ganymede, one of Jupiter’s moons. This vehicle must handle extreme conditions including temperatures as low as -180C, low gravity(a tenth of Earth’s), rocky terrain, and interference from the planet’s magnetic field affecting electronics.

In terms of the organization and communication of the group, I think both of them were quite good to some extent. My group and I communicated and worked quite well with each other, as we were able to create and finish our project on time for the dead lines whereas some other groups weren’t able to. However, I think that our group should have should have done some more communication with our teachers as there were times where we didn’t communicate what we needed for our tests, or they didn’t know how we were testing or what we needed to test.

I don’t think our group necessarily had a clear plan going into the project, but we all had a good idea for what we needed to complete and when we needed it done by. We kind of just went with the flow and tackled one thing at a time, and this surprisingly worked as we didn’t run into too many hiccups. This could have not worked though and put us far behind if we did have errors. In terms of our time management, it went well as we completed everything despite not having a clear plan. In the future I think making a plan for these types of projects is smart and allocating time for possible errors or hiccups is essential to complete your project well and on time.

Good reflection, Marcus. What specific strategies might you use in your personal project to plan your time and ensure that you account for “possible errors or hiccups?”

One strategy I am going to do is setting out specific dates for which certain parts of my project need to be completed by. These dates will also be a few days before those specific aspects are due. This will allow for any margins of error to be dealt with before they are actually do, and allow me to fix them and submit them on time.

Excellent plan. I’ll hold you to it! 🙂
