Project pitch

Vincent Zhao – 4/8/2025

Imagine discovering life-saving drugs in days instead of years, encrypting data that’s unbreakable, or creating AI that learns at a rate faster than any model has before. Quantum computing could promise breakthroughs in these sectors and many more, but only if we can overcome the current challenges. Now, even the smallest errors can throw off a quantum calculation, preventing these systems from being applied in the real world

My project focuses on making quantum error correction more adaptable. Today’s methods use fixed settings that don’t adjust to changing noise conditions. I’m investigating whether tuning just one key recovery parameter in an entanglement-assisted error correction code can significantly boost the accuracy of quantum computations, even under noisy conditions.

Even though this project could end up with no results, it still shows how even a normal individual with no experience can try and improve a field.

Good pitch, Vincent. I wonder if there is a clearer way of expressing the complex issues that you are dealing with so that a person with no knowledge of how quantum computers work or what methods you might use to correct errors could understand your pitch.
