University of Victoria Trip

Hi guys

Last week we went on our year end trip to the UVic, where we attended a multitude of different STEM workshops and activities, including visiting/touring a waste management facility, optimizing paper airplanes, making mechanical claws, and making boats, as well as some fun recreational activities like going to a board game cafe, exploring downtown, touring a really cool bridge, and capture the flag. We left early Monday morning, and spent the whole week in Victoria, returning Saturday evening. Some notable events that I enjoyed were exploring Downtown Victoria, making boats, and making paper airplanes.

My favorite part of this trip was probably getting to spend time with my friends, whether we were doing a workshop, playing games, or just messing around. I also really enjoyed the boat activity, because it gave us a chance to demonstrate our creativity.

My biggest takeaway from this is that I don’t wanna do comp sci/computer engineering as my major. During the coding workshop for optimization algorithms, I didn’t understand anything, and all I remember was something about particle swarm or something, which just made me more confused. On a positive note, I learned that optimization is something that pops up in a wide variety of aspects of life, not just engineering. For example, weightlifting has some aspect of optimization, so does go karting, and so does science, etc.

Anyways thats it for today bye guys see u next blog post !
