Vehicle Project Reflection

Reflection:

  • Problem Definition
    • Did you articulate your problem clearly enough?

I think that the problem statement was very clear and we got the point across quite well.

  • Establishing Norms
    • organizational norms
      • did you know before you started how the group was going to work together?

While we did know what we planned create and that I was the one that would probably spend the most time in construction and code. We did not expect how things would work out and how separated we would get.

  • communication norms
    • did you know before you started how the group was going to communicate with each other?

Yes we expected that we would work over the break and communication would be scarce.

  • did you have clear communication with other stakeholders?  (teachers, mentors, etc)

Yes we had clear communication at least during school time with others like our robotics teacher.

  • The Plan
    • did you have a plan?
    • was it clear?
    • did it make room for the bumps that you may have encountered along the way?

We had a clear plan that would outlined in our final vehicle doc but there were so many bumps along the way that we had to pivot massively.

  • Time Management
    • did you manage your time well?
    • did you complete your project on time?  why or why not?

Time was managed well overall and even with all the problems we had most of us managed to submit on time. I think this is due to the increased amount of time we were given and how fast the group came together to pivot and “lock in”.

  • What to do when things go sideways
    • did everything go as you predicted?
    • why or why not?
    • what did you do if you had recover?

As stated many times the project did not go our way. And throughout the bumps that were caused by the scale of the project. We recovered by looking for help from more experienced persons and we achieved a lot.

I appreciate your honest reflection, Joe. What I’m most curious about is how you will use what you learned in this project going forward. What strategies will you put in place (be specific) in your personal project so that you don’t face the same challenges?

Some strategies that I will put into place for my personal project so that this doesn’t happen again are as follows: I will use AI as a way to research construction methods an aid that really helped me piece together the drone in the end. Additionally, I will firstly use some gel when soldering for handling any electronics so that I can secure wires temporarily to see if everything fits before soldering them saving me time in soldering removal. These strategies are directly related to my personal project.

OK. I was thinking more about planning and time management, but your response is an answer to my question. I would encourage you to be thinking about how you can ensure that you don’t get derailed if your project goes sideways. What plans or strategies can you put in place so that your project is completed on time and at a level that you can take pride in the outcome?
